The crisis between Russia, Ukraine and the EU, starting in the early spring of 2014, has not only rapidly changed the geopolitical landscape in Europe, but also raised the energy security issue to the top of the political and economic agenda. Energy security is no longer simply an energy challenge, but a triple energy-, economic-, and ecological security challenge. This multifaceted crisis has profound implications on the Nordic countries, particularly on Finland, given both the geographic and historical influences.
In such an uncertain, but strategically critical moment, will the crisis be an unfortunate disruption or an unexpected but well-needed push for the transformation towards a carbon-neutral Nordic region? Given the history of weak Nordic cooperation in the past, will this ai???external chockai??? bring Finland and Sweden closer to join forces? To turn these challenges into opportunities, we need both strong political leadership and new industrial dynamics as ai???game-changersai???. What are Finland and Sweden doing and what will they do? Which successful experiences, lessons learned and new ideas can be leveraged for a shared secure, clean, and competitive energy future?
The energy cooperation and policy development in the Nordic countries are also influenced by the increasing integration between the Nordic and the European energy markets. In this context, there is a great need for exchange of ideas and mutual learning, in terms of lessons learned and potential for enhanced energy cooperation between the Nordic countries and the continental Europe.
The Finnish Institute in Stockholm and Global Challenge invite you to this seminar, with both in-depth insights and vigorous discussions regarding these critical issues ai??i?? from the Finnish and the Swedish perspectives as well as bringing the Nordic energy cooperation into a broader European context.
