Expert Group

The #UrbanGirlsMovement research network has been reframed to an Advisory group. During the first year we re-discovered the power that lies in combing academic knowledges with other knowledges and not least practical experience. The logical next step was therefore to unleash this power and install an Expert’s group.

During the first phase of the #UrbanGirlsMovement a great need for interdisciplinary knowledge and to combine academic and practical knowledge were identified. Therefore, the next step within the initiative is to install a cross-sectoral and transnational expert group. The group will consist of members from different sectors and from different academic and geographical contexts. After evaluations of the pilot project in Botkyrka, it became clear how important it is to bring together researchers, urban development professionals and local residents with a focus on girls, to be able to plan the city for all. This experience will be reflected in the expert group by combining practical, academic and lived knowledge. We believe it is particularly important to include researchers who have a strong connection to gender equality in urban planning and design- preferably with a focus on girls and young women’s involvement.

By installing this expert group, the goal is to set a good example of how we think these processes must be run. We also want to inspire more now that the initiative is being passed on from a Swedish pilot project to a broader global context. The group have as their main task to feedback and give recommendation on the process development from each participant’s specific set of knowledge(s) and experiences from wither inside the project or from working on similar matters in other contexts.
