Global Utmaning and the European Commission Representation in Sweden warmly invite you to a seminar and discuss the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union and other related topics.

12 June 2018
10.00–13.00
The House of Europe,
Regeringsgatan 65, 2nd floor
Registration no later than 11 June

As the EU economy emerges from the economic and financial crisis, completing the Economic and Monetary Union is a major policy priority, for the European Commission as well as for many euro-area Member States. Much was done to remedy shortcomings in the EMU construction during the crisis, but other reforms still remain to be carried out.  The European Commission late last year presented its plan which includes a roadmap for the deepening of the EMU. The discussion with Member States on the scope, content and timing of this process is now in full swing. France has presented a number of proposals on EMU, the German Government has taken a stance in its government programme. Italy, however, is in the process of forming a government and its views on EMU are therefore not clear. At the seminar we will hear from representatives of all these three countries, as well as from the European Commission. Sweden, whose economy is so dependent on that of the euro area, will be closely following the EMU deepening. With Brexit, the group member states not having adopted the euro will be economically much smaller. And Sweden is posing the question of whether or not to join the Banking Union.

Where will the process of EMU deepening take the euro area – and at what pace? Which reforms of EMU should be considered as most urgent? How will differences between different national views and interests be reconciled? What is at stake for Sweden when EMU is deepened?
The seminar will be held in English and broadcasted at https://www.facebook.com/EUkommissionen
